Veteran motorcycle road racer and all-around two wheeled riding enthusiast Ben Bostrom
has joined forces with Cameron Gray of M1 PowerSports creating Ben Bostrom Events. The organization will host athletic contests that incorporate pedal cycling and running, as well as other fun-filled elements that have become the latest social rage blending athleticism, competition, and entertainment.
"I love all toys with 2 wheels," says Bostrom who recently bowed out of the AMA Superbike series after competing most recently with the Jordan Suzuki team last season. "This is partially what allowed me to hang up my motorcycle leathers and slip into bicycle lycra so easy... without the standard regret or fear of losing my lifelong passion for dragging my knee and hanging out with all the friends I've enjoyed in the paddock for years.”
Bostrom was an early adopter of cycling as a bona-fide training tool and helped push the sport within the AMA paddock. Now many riders rely on cycling to stay fit for the races: “Luckily, most of my throttle-twisting friends have the same passion for the bicycle as I do and I realized that Mountain Biking and Road Cycling are sports that we can all do on two wheels competitively - in our respective age groups of course - until we say 'that's it.' Once a competitor, always a competitor!”
Their first event is slated for the first weekend of September at Colorado’s Copper Mountain. Dubbed the Rock ‘n Road Challenge the contest incorporates two distinct courses with Saturday’s race being held off-road inside the Copper Mountain ski area and Sunday’s road ride taking riders up to 11,300 feet high in the Rocky Mountains.
