South Park Covers Loud Harley Crowd…

Thursday, November 05, 2009
Viewers of South Park know that when Stan, Kyle and Cartman address an issue... Well, it ain’t always pretty, but more often than not it’s pretty funny. Last night the South Park kids lambasted the loud pipes crowd in an episode, The F Word, that has to be seen rather than explained.

It was irreverent, to be sure. And offensive to some, without question. All we’ll say is the scene of motorcycle riders making loud rumbling sounds, on top of their loud motorcycle exhausts, on top of other attention grabbing actions… Funny stuff.

Who knows? Maybe the obnoxiously loud riders will get the hint about how the general public actually perceives them – a ridiculous nuisance rather than rebellious outlaw.

Laughing at that statement? Me too. If you got a thick skin and don’t mind some coarse humor, laugh some more by watching the episode for yourself at www.southparkstudios.com

Zed - South Park's nailed it!  November 16, 2009 03:19 PM
I always have to laugh and think of two female friends of mine, when they hear some obnoxiously loud bike -- Harley or otherwise. Upon hearing one (or seeing some 8 ft. tall, lifted, 4x4,)in unison, they say: "SMALL PENIS!" I don't think the loud pipes boys really meant to send that message, do you? LMAO
Busa rider - Loved it :-)  November 7, 2009 11:56 AM
I ride a 'Busa with a Two-Brothers exhaust. It has a nice purring sound at low RPM, but is not loud enough to set off car alarms or anything. When I ride down my street I do so at idle speed. I do not rev the motor while sitting at lights, stop signs, in the driveway, ...come to think of it, I NEVER rev the motor or pull the throttle back when I'm not in gear. There is no reason to, other than to draw attention to yourself. Harley riders are ALWAYS revving their big, oversized lawnmowers, and this is after modifing their bikes exhaust to be way louder than anyone ever needs to be. From personal experience riding for 18 years, I will say that noise can sometimes prevent someone from changing lanes on top of you, and it helps to be noticed sometimes, but if you are so loud because you're concerned about safety, then where's your full-face helmet? Neon-orange vest? Both of those things will keep you 1000x safer than the loudest exhaust system ever will. Of course, being a good, responsible, safe, defensive rider is the easiest way to stay alive and in possession of all of your limbs, but I guess since most HD riders only ride every other weekend in the summer when the weathers nice they lack the experience. My last bike was a V-twin sport bike, with an exaust system. It was way louder than my 'Busa is (though still not even close to a HD), and I do not notice any difference as far as other drivers seeing me. It only takes a little noise, after that you're just annoying (a fag). I'm a full time, 18k/year motorcycle rider and I LOVED this episode. HD riders: forget the bike & loud exhaust, use your money for a penis enlargement instead.
My Bike has a Baffle - BHO-loud noises  November 7, 2009 10:47 AM
Ah jeez, here we go again with the "government regulation" bogeyman. I hate to break this to you, but Harleys and other bikes are ALREADY REQUIRED to meet certain standards. It just happens that most law enforcement ignores it. When you look at most aftermarket exhaust or straight pipe kits, there will be a disclaimer that it is "for track or off-road use only." This has nothing to do with the nanny-state, but thanks for injecting that blindly, as I presume you often do.
Sick of Harleys - South Park very good illustration  November 7, 2009 07:34 AM
Most Harley's are illegally equipped according to local, state, and federal regulations. Noise from Harley's is all that our family and neighbors can hear in our homes, but no other traffic noise. During summer it is like living near a drag strip instead of a national park area. Each illegally equipped Harley not only emits harmful noise pollution, but generates 80X more air pollution than a normal automobile. Any city or state may adopt into its ordinance federal regulations which make enforcement of motorcycle exhaust systems easy and not subjective. The EPA label match up program was designed to be adopted to enable easy enforcement, and is explained at www.noiseoff.org. Every motorcycle exhaust systems sold commercially in the USA must bear a permanent EPA label in a visible location. Exhaust systems that are not properly labeled are defective and subject to a product recall. The blame or intrusive noise mostly rests with Harley riders, clearly. The attitude of these loud bikers is perfectly described by the advertising of the Harley Dealership in our area - Maybe you just want that awesome earth-quaking, window-rattling exhaust that sets off car alarms as you ride on by. Want to make men dive out of the way and women grab their children and head inside and lock the doors? We can help with that too! Businesses making these modifications are supposed to be liable for fines up to $10k a day per motorcycle. Responsible government officials who are concerned for the welfare of the general public should put effective laws in place and enforce them.
BHO - loud noises  November 6, 2009 10:07 AM
Wow..seriously? with loud neighbors, loud bumping stereo's, to loud bikes, to loud cars, to jet noise, ...welcome to our planet people, deal with it! unless of course you want even worse government regulation on everything.
Kingoftheroad - South Park right on!  November 6, 2009 08:45 AM
What a complete, right-on-the-money message for Harley riders. Loud, irritating, obnoxious, pretenders most of them. Not all, but a good many that gives the whole Harley crowd a bad name. I laugh at most Harley riders wearing their "uniforms" and looking around to see if anyone's looking at them and thinking they're cool and actually posing the best they can on their overweight bikes. No....you're not cool. You're laughable! I'm a motorcycling enthusiast - anything with two wheels, a motor, and the wind is special, even your first mini-bike with a lawnmower engine. That's cool. Anybody riding for the pure two-wheeled & wind fun of it is cool. Then you've got the Harley enthusiast (worshipping) crowd that are into Harleys and all of that tribal chrome-and-noise laughable garbage, as opposed to being into motorcycling for the sake of pure two-wheeling fun. I get irked when I hear those assholes verbally running down a guy that rides by on a Japanese bike just because it's not a Harley! I want to slap those pricks. Many of the Harley crowd are just a bunch of hoosier rednecks that think they have moved up the human ladder because they went into debt so they could "be cooler." Well, it aint workin'folks. You're being laughed at by even non-motorcycle people. And soon, those loud pipes are going away. What can we do about those pirate uniforms?
Windward - Loud pipes  November 6, 2009 08:04 AM
To be fair. I live near El Camino Real and I would guess that half the loud pipes that go by are not Harly-Davidson's, but Hondas, Virago's and particulary custom choppers, Big Dogs etc. I'm aginst loud pipes but the blame falls all around.
