Alaska Denali Highway

Paxon sits close to Summit Lake and is the trailhead for the Denali Highway. It is a rugged ride between Paxson and Cantwell through the heart of the Clearwater Mountains. It is best attempted on an adventure touring or dual sport motorcycle.

Description: Riding a motorcycle on Alaska's Denali Highway takes determination and skill. The route is best suited for dual sports and adventure touring bikes but it is possible to ride any type of bike you wish. Make sure tires are good and you have a decent range or else you should come prepared with extra fuels and the ability to do roadside repairs. The road is paved only for the first 21 miles west of Paxson and 3 miles east of the Cantwell Junction. Otherwise its dirt, gravel and mud.
