Description: The Cherohala Skyway is a national scenic byway stretching from Tellico Plains, Tennessee to Robbinsville, North Carolina. Its name is a combination of the two national forests it bisects - Cherokee and Nantahala. The popular motorcycle route was completed in 1996 at a claimed pricetag of 100 million dollars. While the route to Tellico to Robbinsville is 53 miles, some reckon the Skyway designation ends at the Santeetlah Gap, with 143 continuing southeast to Robbinsville, while County Road 1127 heads north around Santeetlah Lake and onto US-129 and then northward to the region's other famous road - the Tail of the Dragon
