OHV Pursuit of Happiness Showdown

Wednesday, June 23, 2010
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Those are the oft-cited “self-evident” truths and “unalienable Rights” in the US Declaration of Independence, rights that we as citizens are “endowed by our Creator with”. Great stuff, wonderful stuff, but that whole “pursuit of Happiness” thing causes a lot of sticky situations, doesn’t it?

Riding + Neighbors = Trouble

An example: For some the pursuit of happiness is finding a quiet little spread out in the hills to pass the time listening to the birds & crickets. For others the pursuit is finding a little spread out in the hills to ride loud dirt bikes. When those people get little spreads out in the hills too close together, well, you get a pursuit of Happiness showdown that pretty well summarizes one of the biggest challenges to off-road riding.

Check out the story link below from Colorado’s WFTV news. It’s a notable birds & crickets vs. dirt bikes neighbor standoff. The birds & crickets neighbor has been charged with nine counts of aggravated stalking for videotaping the motocross track and subsequent racing at his dirt bike neighbor’s property, a track which county code enforcement says is illegal. The Lake County Sherriff’s office, which arrested the birds & crickets neighbor, admits an off-duty officer was one of those using the track. Did we mention claims that the birds & crickets fellow threatened to kill people?

Ah… sticky, sticky pursuit of Happiness.

JC -Stalking charges - Brilliant!!!! June 23, 2010 08:59 AM
If the track is indeed violating codes then you know the county is going to ultimately fine the track owner - no question. A lot of people build tracks without even knowing if it's approved, others do it regardless. But I LOVE seeing these guys fight back. Those stalking charges might get dropped or whatever, but at least it's a pain in the guy's ass. Nothin' like a good old-fashioned spiteful jab.
