Rossi’s Love Note to Yamaha M1

Monday, August 16, 2010
Valentino Rossi is the greatest Grand Prix rider of all time. He is also an odd fellow. The Italian rider comes across as quite passionate – particularly when it comes to motorsports. So it’s no surprise that he loves motorcycles. But Valentino really loves motorcycles. Loves them. And breaking up is hard to do.
Rossis Note

In a farewell letter confirming Rossi's move from Yamaha to Ducati for 2011, the nine-time world champ thanked Yamaha and his crew members, but most of all he talked about his beloved M1 MotoGP mount. The kicker for us was toward the end.
Valentino Rossi put in a magnificent performance in California with a third-place finish only 7 weeks after smashing his right leg to pieces at Mugello.
Breaking up is hard to do...

“Unfortunately even the most beautiful love stories finish, but they leave a lot of wonderful memories, like when my M1 and I kissed for the first time on the grass at Welkom, when she looked straight in my eyes and told me ‘I love you!'"

Good Lord… That’s the sort of love note that gets stowed away for adult children to later discover in an old shoebox after your death. But there you have it, Valentino Rossi’s impassioned love letter to his dear Yamaha M1 sent out via world-wide press release. The press announcement even includes the original note, handwritten in Italian no less! There’s even sections scratched out as Rossi seeks just the right words to lessen the sting of the breakup.

Alas for the Yamaha, that damn Desmosedici has stolen Valentino away.

Ah well, they’ll always have Welkom…

I have always believed motorcycles are like women. Aside from the obvious part about riding them, motorcycles will bring you more joy than just about anything, but they can also hurt you badly. So it's no wonder they are loosely equated to women.

My baby is currently enduring the monsoon lashes and yet she never ceases to love me. I always, pat her on the tank at the end of my daily ride. 3 cheers to motorcycles!!

A motorcycle is not an inanimate object as some believe. They not only have feelings, they create in us a certain persona. A part of us we may not realize we have. Mine makes me do a few mischevious things that I might not otherwise have done. I talk to her and she to me. We converse 60 to 100 miles almost everyday. When I arrrive at my destinantion safely, I thank her, as she has saved my bacon a few times. So for Rosssi to write such a note, to me, is totally understandable. "Parting is such sweet sorrow"

I need to start kissing my bike....
Superlight -Question August 17, 2010 12:50 PM
Is Jeremy Burgess making the move with Rossi to Ducati? None of the announcements I've seen make mention of this important detail.
Jaymz -What the problem is? August 17, 2010 10:49 AM
Nothing wrong with being emotionally attached to your mount. Who hasn't felt a pang of guilt when their motorcycle is sitting on the driveway in the rain, or had a quiet conversation while bombing down the highway, or gave the tank a reassuring stroke or pat after an arduous journey is safely completed?
