Last week I drew driving duties for what we here in the Oregon HQ of Motorcycle USA like to call an “LA Run.” Being based out of Medford, Oregon, each and every editor is quite familiar with the tedious 750-mile journey to Los Angeles and Orange County to attend media events and pickup test units.

Ah, the mosaic. Used to be they were known primarily as the decorative art of ancient Rome and Byzantium. Then some utter genius figured out how to take a number of smaller photos and generate larger mosaic portraits, begetting the photomosaics phenomenon.

Mat Mladin is a figure that elicits strong opinions from racing fans. And now that the most prolific Superbike racer in AMA history has announced his retirement – effective at the conclusion of this season – it makes a fan wonder what Mladin’s legacy will be.

The inaugural Grave Robbers Run concluded with all eight bikes limping across the 750-mile finish. The three-day event featured pre-1980, sub $1000 motorcycles motoring for three days across amazing Idaho backroads. Most riders fetched their mounts from Craiglist for between $150 to $600, cleaned the carbs a time or two, filled up the oil and headed down the road with sleeping bag and tool kit bungeed.

The inaugural Grave Robbers Run completed its first day, with eight vintage bikes rolling thru 250 miles of mountain terrain from Boise to Salmon, Idaho. The route wound first from Boise to Stanley on Highway 21 – dubbed the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Highway. From Stanley, the Robbers followed Highway 75, shadowing the Salmon River - joining with the 93 near Challis up to Salmon.
