The 2009 Tri-Glide gives riders who might be intimidated by a big bike a chance to confidently grab the handlebars and go.

"There is likely no profile on the American road more distinctive than that of a Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle, and we were able to retain the character of each model (in '09) while significantly improving the riding experience in many ways," said H-D's VP of Operations, Bill Davidson.

This doesn't mean that The Motor Company didn't take the Ultra Classic Touring platform to new three-wheeled heights. I've seen plenty of kits on Harley Tourers at custom shows in the past, but the 2009 Tri Glide Ultra Classic is straight from the factory. With a few helpful hints from the crew at Lehman in South Dakota, the new production trike has all the features of an Ultra Classic - same front fairing, same king-sized front fender and instrumentation. A new triple clamp did allow for revised steering geometry with an increase in rake angle and a reduction in trail. The front end also has a steering stabilizer beneath the triple tree to help control coast-down wobble.

The Tri Glide's 103ci engine is a little over 100cc larger than the Ultra Classic's Twin Cam 96. It uses a heavy-duty clutch with a differential rear end. It has a set of 15-inch Dunlops and dual disc brakes out back to go along with a 16-inch wheel up front.

The molded composite trunk integrates cleanly into the fenders and provides 4.5 cubic-feet of storage space. Teamed with the Tour Pak topcase, the Tri Glide's storage capacity jumps to 6.56 cubic-feet. The rear fenders, topcase and trunk appear to be one piece, but the whole rear end comes off with only six bolts and the fenders are removable.

The 2009 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra Classic is powered by a 103 V-Twin engine with ESPFI.

The ergos on the Tri Glide make you feel spoiled. Big floorboards, laid back reach to the bars, big comfy seat. The controls have the same lever effort as the Ultra's. Electric reverse is an option that can be added to the hand controls and is worth the $1195, especially if you're already plunking down $29,999 for the three-wheeled Ultra Classic. Jim Hofmann, H-D's Director of Core Motorcycle Product Planning, says its creation is a direct result of customer's requests, and can "extend the riding life of customers and bring in new riders who might be intimidated by the thought of riding a big bike (of the two-wheeled variety, that is)."

Coming straight off a motorcycle, it takes a while to become confident in a trike's front end. A little three-wheeler 101. Don't put your foot down when turning. Ride it like an ATV. The first time you bank it hard in a turn and it drifts on you, you're going to want to dab your foot out of habit. Don't do it. You'll roll right over your ankle. Not that I speak from experience, or anything like that. But this tidbit of wisdom could save you a trip to the hospital.

Paul - Tri Glide going bye bye  November 3, 2009 10:35 AM
I bought my Tri last spring when trading in my 07 Ultra. I thought the three wheeler was what I wanted and when I first took delivery I was not too convinced I had done the right thing. I gave it one season and nearly 5000 miles to grow on me but it has actually gone the other way. Has anyone else in here found a dissatisfaction going from two to three wheels. I have decided to go back to two, recently ordered a 2010 CVO Ultra. I went with the CVO because I always end up spending a couple thousand dollars dressing up my machines after taking delivery so this way hopefully that won't be necessary. If anyone in here knows of anyone who would like to buy a low mileage well dressed Tri Glide before I trade it feel free to drop me a line at pmanches@twcny.rr.com

I bought my 2010 Tri Glide in August and love it ! Gas mileage isn't what its supposed to be, but I'm hoping it will get better. This takes some getting use to after riding 2 wheels! but i'm getting the hang of it.
Wayne Mc Neal - New Street Glide  August 23, 2009 04:03 AM
I purchsed the first 2010 Street Glide that was sold in Lubbock, Tx, 2 weeks ago and I love it. Went on a poker run that Lubbock put on at Buffalo Lakes yesterday and was reallly easy to ride. I had a 2009 Rocker C and had to sell it to my boss because my doctor did now want me taking a chance of putting my foot down because of bad bones.
I feel so much safer on the new Street Glide and will add extra's later when broken in.
Nancy - Tri-Glide  August 17, 2009 06:23 PM
I got mine in Sept 2008. 15,000 miles later I am one happy girl.I did change the bars and improved the handling for me. I felt they were not right for a female and due to the fact I have serious back problems. Now I can get comfortable in my seat, set the cruise and enjoy. Harley has kept me riding with the trike. A bump in the road does not mean what it used to! Giving up my 08' Streetglide was hard, but it was the smartest move I ever made. Pulled a trailer for 7000 miles and never had a problem.
Joe - broke down trike  August 4, 2009 03:41 PM
Im not to sure about this new tri glide it says lehman helped design this. I had a 98 ultra classic with a LEHMAN trike and it broke down 3 times in 1000 miles with a stock motor. I burned rubber and tried wheelies. I think I ride too hard for this bike its only good for cruising. Hopefully the 09 will hold up for my test ride or maybe the 103 will break that rear end even faster.
Wolf - My tri glide  July 22, 2009 10:39 AM
I picked up mine June 11th, after riding a customized Heritage, it took a little getting used to. But, the biggest advantage is that my wife is able to ride with me again. After her multiple back surgeries, she just couldn't ride comfortably. We just road on Sunday from 10 a.m. to about 9 p.m. and no complaints about her back. Thanks HD, I have no problems with my tri glide. We are getting ready for Sturgis.

30 Year riding and still going
windle - tri glide 2009 trike  July 13, 2009 01:49 PM
i have had my trike for 2 weeks about 1900 miles i love it the only thing is top in speed is about 95 they must have a govenar on it or something dont get me wrong you can be doing 95 in just a few seconds but why want it do the 120 thats on the speedo is it because of warranty or what other than that i love it
Jeannie - performance  July 8, 2009 10:40 PM
I think performance must vary, I agree that 6th pulling a 4000 ft pass is a bit lackluster but shifted down and did 60+ all the way up. Went on a 300mile plus group ride, spent 8 hours on the road and much of it was in temperatures over 100 degrees. The performance did not flag. Spent most of the day over 60 and often over 70, passing a truck and I looked down and was close to 90. I kept my spot in the pack just fine and I was at the back in the slinky zone, you know, slow, fast, slow, fast. The trike is beautiful, hot, and powerful, what more could a girl ask for. Startled the guys when I left the curb at the hotel and was gone in a couple of seconds. 0-25 is really easy and made the guys stand up and take notice, I think the trike earned a bit of respect at that point.

Seems like my original posting got deleted, so I try again. I am waiting for the first 2010 Tri glide and want to know if someone could supply me with Vance/Hines and Powerpac part numbers. Also interested on any options you would suggest prior to taking delivery. Are the 203 cams a good thing to do right away, etc. Thanks.
gio - Tri Glide performance  June 27, 2009 07:07 AM
Does anyone recommend adding 203 cams as a way to get immediate performance enhancement?

Paul - TriGlide getting better  June 14, 2009 07:25 AM
I now have 1100 miles on mine and have put on a set of Vance & Hines pipes, stage one breather, and a fuelpak. My performance has improved signifcantly and the mileage is coming around, now a little over 40. I talked to the techs at Fuelpac, who were very helpful, and they also told me the sixth gear is similar to an overdrive and don't look for much there. It was the same way with my 07 Ultra that was the first year of the six speed tranny. Simply drop a gear and keep the rpm's up, all is fine. I really like the fuelpak because I can dial in settings for my Vance & Hines, Screamin Eagles, or stock pipes in just a few minutes. As for the ride I have found to keep the air shocks pumped up to around 45psi and the ride is much better. I keep the rear tires pressure at 26psi cold and the front at 36 psi. With this I can take any corner just as well as I could with my two wheeler. I wasn't totally happy with the seat from the start and planned to change it out with a high end seat but get this, my HD dealer convinced me to NOT spend money on it yet! He said to give the factory seat more time to break in before laying out money for an aftermarket, not something you come to expect from a Harley Dealer, especially since HD stands for "hundred dollars".
Texas - '09 TriGlide  June 12, 2009 09:40 PM
We picked ours up on October 24, 2008 - didn't really start riding it (2 up) until Jan '09... Currently we have over 13,000 miles and still on the road... There are a number of items stated here (performance and mileage) - we had same concerns but overcame them... Don't use 6th gear as much as before - mileage is much better... A number of other owners post on the http//:hdforums.com - some have other issues but mainly it's the trunk leaking... We've had ours fixed per the HD Recall; etc, etc... Still leaking... You all would have to read the hd forums yourself as there is much info on this trike from actual owners... We love ours...
Dutch Holland - Tri Glide Ultra Classic performance :  June 7, 2009 07:15 PM
I recently purchased a 2009 Tri Glide Ultra Classic and am somewhat dissapointed. It looks great and for a trike handles very well but for a 103 c.i. bike it's lacking in performance. Mine won't rev over 3000 RPM in sixth gear and when I hit a slightly inclined stretch on the interstate it falls off of that. I traded in a 88 c.i. Road King pulling a side car and it would run circles around this lack luster Tri Glide. I took it back to Adamec Harley (Jacksonville,FL) where I bought it and they tell me nothings wrong and I just need to downshift. So I called Harley and they tell me it should be able to rev higher than 3000 RPM in sixth gear leaving me holding a $33,000 lemon and neither Harley nor Adamec attempting to find a solution to it's poor performance. I wish I had kept my Road King with side car.
Paul - performance and mileage  June 7, 2009 08:23 AM
Anyone else out there have complaints about performance and mileage with their triglide? I have 800 miles on mine and am not very excited about it in these areas. Thanks
DICK - TRI-GLIDE  May 12, 2009 09:24 AM
I ALSO TOOK DELIVERY OF MY TRI-GLIDE IN APRIL,WHAT A DREAM.WITH THE RAKE ON THE FRONT FORK NOT A WIGGLE OR A SHAKE LIKE I HAD WITH MY LEHMAN CONVERSION.ALSO THE WHEEL BASE IS 6 INCHES LONGER THAN THE LEHMAN.AS A AMPUTEE OF MY LEFT LEG I DESIGNED A SHIFTER FOR THE RIGHT FOOT.I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT MY HARLEY TRI-GLIDE EXCEPT THANK YOU HARLEY DAVIDSON IT'S ABOUT TIME AND IT'S AWESOME.
Jim - Tri-Glide  May 7, 2009 10:41 PM
I have had mine since 4-25-09 and have had nothing but compliments. It is beautiful and rides like a dream. With the back problems and neck problems I have, this was the best choice for me. Thanks HD, you made it so I could keep riding.
Bob - Tri-Glide  March 14, 2009 06:15 PM
I own one. Before i rode a 2001 Elictra Glide Classic with a two wheeled kit. I rode it to Milwaukee for the 105th. When i got home i ordered the Tri-glide, what a beautiful riding machine, it rides and handles so smooth! I've had 2 total knee replacements, this will help me ride for ever!
