Video: Erik Buell Racing 1190RS Part III
Wednesday, August 10, 2011
Another promotional video for the EBR 1190RS
has been released by longtime Buell cohort, Rat Pack Records
. For the third installment, Erik Buell and company promote the 1190RS and Erik Buell Racing with patriotic passion. American-made, American-designed.
“One of the aspects that makes America great is our innovation. Our country really based upon people living their own dreams,” says EBR designer Tony Stefanelli in the video, who later states: “We want to live free. We want to think free. We want to be able to do what we want to do as individuals.”
An appeal to country may strike the cynical as marketing schlock. But it’s hard to imagine anyone who has ever spoken to Buell one-on-one finding his patriotic motives disingenuous. During our interview with Erik Buell
, just months following the 2009 shuttering of Buell Motorcycles
, he said: “My own goal is, I still believe that here in American we can build great sportbikes.”
The goal hasn’t changed, and Buell continues to expound the American Sportbike gospel. Stefanelli and current AMA rider Geoff May (judging from his input on the video) are loyal disciples. A similar optimistic confidence and domestic spirit seem to drive projects like the Alabama-based Motus Motorcycles and the various electric start-ups littering the West Coast. It's something hopeful to root for as doom and gloom pervade the news on the economy in general, and the motorcycle industry in particular.
