World Superbike Phillip Island Highlight Videos

The opening round of the 2012 World Superbike Championship
at Phillip Island proved a memorable one. SBK fans can catch up on the highlights by visiting the FIM Superbike World Championship Youtube Channel
. (Unfortunately, viewers will have to just imagine Jonathan Green’s screaming commentary.)
The Race 1 highlight, or lowlight if you’re Carlos Checa
, was the Althea Ducat ace’s sickening highside – a high-speed get-off that vaulted the Spaniard into the air and out of the lead. Checa's crash opened the way for Max Biaggi
, who delivered his new Aprilia crew his first SBK win at Phillip Island, and Biaggi's first victory at the Australian circuit since his 500cc GP days (2000).
Race 2 saw Checa take the win after a good scrap with early front-runners Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea. The fact that Checa returned at all was a remarkable feat considering his violent exit from Race 1. “After winning I am feeling very, very well. I think it is the best anti-inflammatory I am able to take today,” joked Checa in the post race press conference.
Checa rebounded in Race 2, but Biaggi logged a heroic ride as well. The Italian charged up through the ranks from dead last to second-place after running wide in the first corner – the Aprilia blowing by rivals on the straights, sometimes two bikes at a time.
Former World Supersport champ Keenan Sofuoglu marked his return from Moto2 to take the 2012 World Supersport opener. The Turkish rider snagged his first win aboard his new Kawasaki, edging out fellow ZX-6R rider Fabien Foret for the win.
