Mines and Meadows Trail Map.
I just finished my second visit to the Mines and Meadows ATV/RV Resort
and it was even better than the first. We headed to Wampum, Pennsylvania for a test ride on a new Kawasaki ATV
. (We can’t give out any details about that machine just yet, but watch for it on October 10th.) I arrived at midnight in Pittsburgh and drove the 30 minutes north to our hotel in a pounding rain. The region received 1.5 inches in a single day and I was curious to see how the East Coast soil would handle the downpour.
Our ride day dawned and we were on the trails by 10 a.m. The Mines and Meadows trail system features miles of clearly marked trails, many of which are one-way traffic and navigating them was even easier than before with improved signage. There were puddles that were just right for splashing through and some bogs that were unnervingly deep, but the conditions were perfect for a sport-utility type vehicle. Muddy spots on the trail were interspersed with moist, loose dirt, dark coal stains and dust-free gravel roads. Choosing lines was important and waging skill and bravery versus enticing-but-dangerous holes kept us on our toes.
Heading inside the mine for a guided tour was great as well, but it was the same as I remembered it. The real beauty was the epic outdoor conditions. Our day was overcast in the morning and burned off to reveal warm, sunny temps in the afternoon. My last trip to Pennsylvania was in the early spring before the vegetation really woke up. This time around I was surrounded by lush greenery and the first signs of fall colors. Now, if we could just get the same treatment on the West Coast, life would be perfect.
