The element of bad road was the unknown around the next corner, whether it was an oncoming truck in your lane, loose gravel in the apex or a washed out section, requiring the rider to back track or spend hours walking their motorcycle and gear across a bolder strewn stream bed.

The blue of the Nevada sky in July was as blue as that over Namibia or the Atacama Desert of Chile in South America.

Guns? You need guns? There had obviously been guns aplenty fired at this well-holed road sign.

Risk? You need risk for adventure, and here the risk was of climbing or meeting rattlesnakes.

Border? Road signs said that there was a change ahead, not only a lowering of the speed limit, but also that a border was about to be crossed.
