Biketoberfest 2011 Oct. 13-16 in Daytona Beach
Monday, October 10, 2011
the kinder, gentler rally in Daytona Beach, kicks off this weekend. For motorcyclists who don’t like the crowds and commercialism of its better known Spring counterpart, Biketoberfest offers many of the same amenities without the big crowds, like cruising the beautiful strip of sand known as Daytona Beach, custom bike shows like
Motorcycles will soon be invading Daytona Beach's Main Street and the Iron Horse Saloon as the annual Biketoberfest rally prepares to fire on all cylinders this weekend.
the Rat’s Hole
and the International Master Bike Builders Association show, and a chance to hang out at favorite biker bars like the Broken Spoke. Better yet, while much of the country is getting its first tastes of Fall weather, it’s forecast to be in the mid-80s this weekend in Daytona Beach. Getting in one more good road trip before the season of the trickle charger is upon us sounds good to me.
Biketoberfest 2011 is scheduled for October 13-16 and though it doesn’t revolve around the same racing nucleus as Bike Week, motorcyclists can get a chance to ride on the revered banks of Daytona International Speedway (DIS) during the annual Monster Dash on Friday, Oct. 14. For $30 riders get a paced parade lap on the Speedway to go along with a Monster Dash patch to prove to their doubtful friends that they indeed got to ride on sacred racing ground. There will also be demo rides on 2012 motorcycles offered outside of DIS, too, along with general motorcycle-related vendors.
As far as bike shows go, Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Old School Chopper Show
goes down on Oct. 13 from noon – 4 p.m. The IMBBA Show we mentioned before will be held on Oct. 15th from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Spoke, while the 19th Annual Rat’s Hole Ride-In Bike Show is also on the 15th at the Daytona Lagoon. Ted Smith and the Rat’s Hole gang always put on a top-notch event and this year are bringing back a sector they started back in the ‘70s, the Café Racer Class.
Plenty of live music will be going on at various bars around town, highlighted by headliners Blue Oyster Cult who are putting on a free concert at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Molly Hatchet will be cranking out its Southern Rock and blues-driven riffs the night before at 10 p.m., Oct. 14, at the Broken Spoke Saloon.
Main Street should be hoppin’, with Dirty Harry’s, the Full Moon Saloon, Boot Hill Saloon, and Froggy’s all scheduled to be open for business. The 7th annual motorcycle swap meet extravaganza and bike show will also be taking place for those shopping around for that one rare part they need to complete their project bike. Winter’s right around the corner, so why not take advantage of one more opportunity to have some fun in the sun? It’s party time again in Daytona Beach as Biketoberfest 2011 commences this weekend.
