McQueen Bikes in 1st Bikers & Bombers Event
Wednesday, June 6, 2012
One of the highlights of the Lyon Air Museum's 1st Annual Bikes & Bombers Event are two motorcycles formerly owned by Steve McQueen, a 1921 Harley with matching sidecar and a 1933 Panther.
JD from Motorcycle USA’s SoCal office brought this cool shindig the Lyon Air Museum
in Santa Ana, CA, is hosting this weekend to my attention. The museum is holding its 1st Annual Bikes & Bombers Event
, highlighted by the display of two Steve McQueen motorcycles from a private collection. One is a pristine 1921 Harley-Davidson with matching sidecar and the other is a four-stroke Single-cylinder 1933 Panther. Better yet, the latter motorcycle reportedly was restored in 1983 by Von Dutch.
Triumph/Ducati of Newport Beach, one of the sponsors, will also bring bikes like the 2012 Triumph Bonneville T100 Steve McQueen Edition
for visitors to check out. The air museum itself has some rare military motorcycles in its regular collection, including a 1943 German NSU Kettenkrad HK 101 Tracked Motorcycle. These things used to tow Messerschmitt jet fighters, so you know it’s a hoss. Its gross weight is listed at a whopping 3444 pounds. Yikes!
Lyon is providing exclusive motorcycle parking, complimentary coffee and donuts, and is holding a People’s Choice Bike Show. The show has a unique prize as the winner gets their photo taken at the controls of the museum’s B-17 with a former WWII bomber pilot. Motorcyclists also get a discount as admission is only $8.
Besides motorcycles, the vast collection in the Lyon Air Museum includes planes, cars, and military vehicles. Definitely worth the eight bucks. Once again, the first annual Bikes & Bombers Event is this Sunday, June 10 at the Lyon Air Museum in Santa Ana from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
