Hollister Rally Gets 10-Year Extension
Thursday, August 22, 2013
Hollister is back! The Hollister City Council approved a 10-year extension for the Hollister Rally Monday.
Hollister is back. Big time. After skipping a beat for a few years, the Central Californian town of Hollister once again hosted a bike rally this past summer. Full hotels, restaurants, bars and gas stations must have been enough incentive to remind the Hollister City Council that sometimes it’s worth putting up with the congestion and loud pipes for a couple of days after approving a 10-year extension for the Hollister Rally.
According to KSBW.com,
Action News 8, the Hollister City Council approved the 10-year extension Monday. The city’s commitment to the rally will help “reap the benefits of long-term sponsorship opportunities” according to the report, and will help businesses in planning. When the rally was canceled, attendance was said to be seriously waning, but attendance numbers this year were estimated at 60,000.
The town was forever ingrained into motorcycling lore after the famous photo published by the San Francisco Chronicle and Life magazine and the headlines about the sensationalized Hollister riot. Since then, Hollister has always held a special place in the hearts of bikers, with many traditionally showing up to party over the Fourth of July weekend.
The 2014 Hollister Rally will be held over Independence Day weekend next year, from Friday to Sunday.
