Pope Francis Auctioning Harley for Charity
Tuesday, January 14, 2014
Pope Francis is putting his 2013 Harley Dyna Super Glide Custom up for auction to help feed the hungry coming through the doors of Caritas Roma's Don Luigi di Liegro hostel and soup kitchen.
The Pope’s Harley is going up on the auction block. The 2013 Dyna Super Glide Custom, presented to Pope Francis during Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary celebration in Rome, will be auctioned off by Bonhams
in Paris Feb. 6 at the Grand Palais. To sweeten the deal, Pope Francis signed the tank. It will come with a Certificate of Conformity from Harley-Davidson and a Papal Certificate.
Money raised from the sale will go to Caritas Roma, specifically Caritas’ Don Luigi di Liegro hostel and soup kitchen at Rome’s Termini railway station. For 30 years Caritas Roma has been providing food and accommodations for the destitute, working to “relieve the suffering of around 1000 less fortunate people every day.”
The motorcycle has no reserve, but a base model 2013 Dyna Super Glide Custom sells for $13,199. The fact that this has been signed by the Pope bumps up its sentimental value exponentially, so hopefully its sale will pay big dividends for Caritas Roma.
