Mike Lafferty Notches 70th Enduro Win
Monday, June 18, 2012
Lafferty is 18 points out of the championship lead.
We hear a lot about the racing exploits of record-setting motocross riders like Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael, and constant tallies are kept on the guys who might one day reach those types of numbers. It’s not nearly as common to hear about big milestone wins in the rest of the off-road racing world. Mike Lafferty hasn’t won a National Enduro since 2010, but the Husaberg 2-stroke rider put on a strong ride in Wyoming at the Inyan Kara National Enduro and wound up taking his 70th victory.
“It has been long overdue,” said the eight-time champion. “I was able to start with a win in the first section and carry that momentum through to the last test. I am really comfortable with the terrain at the next two national enduros and hope that I can remain consistent and hopefully close the point gap in the series standings.”
Lafferty is attempting to break the all-time championship record which he currently shares with Dick Burleson. With four rounds remaining, the veteran is 18 points behind young KTM phenom and series leader, Steward Baylor.
