MCUSA's newest lap-timing system is full of features that allow us to gather the most accurate data for our bike test. Check out the
AIM MyChron Light TG Review
.
The timers on the bikes are read by three beacons strategically positioned on the track with tripods; one at the start/finish line and the other two spaced apart so as to divide the track into three parts.
Placing the beacons in the most effective position would prove to be the biggest challenge.
As great as the MyChron Light TG is at gathering information, it excels at delivering that information in exportable files that keep things nice and organized.
The LightAnalyzer software is a workable program but it does feel clunky and less than intuitive. The manual doesn't cover much beyond installation and basic functions, so you're mostly on your own to figure out the intricacies.
To utilize the MyChron Light TG a timer is attached to the motorcycle. We used heavy duty Velcro along with zip-ties so that we could make changes between bikes.
No more stopwatches. The MyChron Light TG keeps track of the action with the push of a few buttons. So now we can save our worries for the track.
Downloading the data to a computer is straightforward. Just fire up the LightAnalyzer software, connect the Light TG using the optional USB cable and click the Download button.
With the timer display near the control panel, it was easy to glance down and check lap times on the fly.
Ken sets up the MyChron Light TG at a recent track day in Seattle. The MyChron has proved invaluable in delivering accurate and useable information for our bike tests.
When we needed to record accurate lap times for our Superbike Smackdown, we decided to try out the MyChron Light TG from AIM Sports.
Using the Export to Excel feature allows the entire Lap Times Analysis data to be available in Excel. We used this often in order to create graphs and share data with users who don't have LightAnalyzer installed.
The MyChron Light TG comes in two model versions: a 6-volt and 12-volt. The 12-volt connects to the bikes battery, so we opted for the 6-volt which can be transferred from bike to bike much easier.
For the most part the MyChron Light TG was easy to use and versatile. We were even able to load up our MCUSA logo onto the display screen.
