Ontario EX Video Showcases Track and Riders

Thursday, September 22, 2011
Round 4 of the Geico AMA EnduroCross Championship rolled through Ontario, California and the level of competition in this series continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Just a few years ago when EX was getting a foothold in off-road racing, the tracks were so much different than they are now. Riders were much less sophisticated as well, in both technique and equipment. The EnduroCross video really showcases how difficult the tracks are now and how riders are adapting to the indoor series. A couple things that this video illustrated:

Look at how much Taddy Blazusiak stands up. He’s a master of balance, weight shifting and using his legs as shock absorbers. Take a look at how much speed he carries into that first log and just soaks it up. Where other riders sit for a corner, he’s on the rear brake like a ninja. Brake-sliding sets him up to hit obstacles perpendicular. It seems to work since the bike rarely comes out from under him.

As for the track, that high-speed start with short log put some talented dirt bikers on their heads. The rock pile is sharper than I remember and the firewood pit is just plain nasty. One obstacle that has gotten easier is the water crossing. I can remember submerged rocks and floating logs that made it a nightmare in the past. Riders didn’t give it a second thought in Ontario.

On a side note, MotoUSA test rider Tod Sciacqua wanted me to point out that he won the Vet class. Good job, TS.
