Team HRC Down to Three Riders
Thursday, December 20, 2012

Team HRC moves from five to three riders after a pre-Dakar test crash leaves Sam Sunderland and Felipe Zanol on the sidelines recovering from injury.
Team HRC is now down to three riders for the Dakar Rally in 2013. Back in
October 2012 it was announced that five riders would comprise the team, and then later in early November all five were able to compete in the team’s first outing in the
Rally of Morocco. Pre-Dakar
testing in the Southern California desert saw Felipe Zanol and Sam Sunderland crash and sustain injuries that will force them to sit out the Dakar in January. Remaining team members Johnny Campbell, Javier Pizzolito and Helder Rodrigues will carry Big Red’s banner to South America for Honda’s first ride in a Dakar rally in over two decades.
Team HRC representative Katsumi Yamazaki had this to say of the roster change, “Felipe Zanol and Sam Sunderland have been part of the program since the foundation of TEAM HRC and have participated in all testing and the Morocco Rally. They both gave us valuable advice on how to improve the competition machine. Unfortunately, they will miss the final event but I believe they are still part of the team. As our team ethic is a big part of our strength, we will continue with our goal of winning the Dakar."
The 2013 Dakar Rally in South America kicks off January 5th and runs to the 20th.
