With winter set in and less time for riding, there’s still plenty of reason to stay active, and that means more than just getting out on the trails whenever Mother Nature allows. We’ve all heard of Blue Ribbon Coalition and the AMA, but there are smaller organizations that you can be a part of and which can create more immediate changes to you as an individual.

Finally, with the first 2009 issue of MotoUSA Magazine put to bed and hot off the press, I’ve somehow found myself with a completely free weekend. No travel assignments, no labor requests from parents or friends, no honey-do lists, nada. Just two days of pure JC time. Unfortunately, it’s that time of year where our little nook in the Pacific Northwest plays toilet bowl for Frosty and the Abominable Snowmen.

As the Off-Road Editor I suppose this proposed 100% tariff on sub-500cc European motorcycles really affects my window of thought more than many of my coworkers. Not only are dirt bikes the primary target, but most scooters fall into this category as well.
Does Ducati, Moto Guzzi or MV Agusta have to worry about this beef vs. bike BS? No.

Ok, so to kick this blog off I figured what better way than from the posh interior of San Diego’s Grand del Mar. Why would a lowly, dirt-grubbin’ scribe like me be holed up in such a high-class outfit? Well, it’s not on account of my Christmas bonus, that’s for sure.
