Monday, September 10, 2012
A Jupiter, Florida, police officer riding with President Barack Obama’s motorcade was killed yesterday when he was struck by a pick-up truck. An article on WPTV.com identifies the man as Bruce St. Laurent who was attempting to shut down Interstate 95 at the 45th Street exit for the motorcade’s passing when he was struck by a Ford F-150.
It was a beautiful sunny day in Medford Oregon as over 120 officers from around the Northwest were in town to sharpen their motorcycle riding skills.
Being a motorcycle officer only adds to the danger of the occupation. A Jupiter, Florida, police officer working with President Obama's motorcade was struck by a pick-up truck yesterday and died from his injuries.
Obama was on his way to the Palm Beach County Convention Center for a campaign appearance when the accident occurred.

St. Laurent was said to be a 20-year veteran of the police department, spending 18 of those years as a motorcycle officer. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A statement attributed to President Obama by White House spokesman Jay Carney says the president’s “thoughts and prayers are with the officer's family."

St. Laurent leaves behind a wife and four children.
