Being a motorcycle officer only adds to the danger of the occupation. A Jupiter, Florida, police officer working with President Obama's motorcade was struck by a pick-up truck yesterday and died from his injuries.
Obama was on his way to the Palm Beach County Convention Center for a campaign appearance when the accident occurred.
St. Laurent was said to be a 20-year veteran of the police department, spending 18 of those years as a motorcycle officer. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A statement attributed to President Obama by White House spokesman Jay Carney says the president’s “thoughts and prayers are with the officer's family."
St. Laurent leaves behind a wife and four children.
