Off-Road vs. Motocross

Ricky Dietrich
Who would've thought the most powerful factory motocross team would take this blonde-haired off-roader to save their sinking ship?
Did Ricky Dietrich just get himself fired – and hired - by the same company?

Anyone who saw Moto 2 from Freestone can attest that Ricky D is one bad mo-fo. He finished sixth in that race (fifth overall) and here’s a short list of the guys he beat: Byrne, Tedesco, Brayton, Cooper, Wey, J. Alessi, Grant, and Reynard. His average lap time in Moto 2 was 2:15.9. This guy has some incredible physical conditioning, not to mention his skill on the motocross track, which is a favorite training ground for off-road racers.

With none of the original factory motocross riders under the big tent, will Dietrich get called up to the big leagues full time? If so, where does that leave his off-road career which is currently on a meteoric rise? There’s a WORCS race this weekend in Toutle, Washington. Rumor has it we’ll see Dietrich at High Point on Saturday and then Kawasaki will overnight ship him across the country for the grueling two-hour off-road event on Sunday. That’s one hell of a schedule, plus he’ll have missed Saturday afternoon practice so he’ll be racing a blind course. It’ll be interesting to see how well he holds up – we’re rootin’ for ya, Ricky!!

Check out the Motocross Freestone Raceway results and the AMA Motocross Freestone Insider report.

Rich -Is he related to RC? June 11, 2009 06:37 AM
It's good to see a racer that actually likes to race! Go Ricky!
wllrjstn -someone should be worried June 10, 2009 04:55 PM
I know I'd be worried if I were Tim Ferry.
James -For Sure! June 10, 2009 10:54 AM
Not a lot of people pick up on that because he's not some Motocross track hero, but off road he's a stud. He can obviously hold his own and maybe with the fast guys breaking themselves left and right, guys like Dietrich will get some well deserved credit.
JC -No love... June 10, 2009 10:09 AM
Isn't anyone impressed by this guy? Jeez, what's he got to do to get a little respect around here...
