The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), which represents more than 300,000 active members as the nation's leading advocacy organization for motorcyclists' rights, issued the following statement today from AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman with respect to the national election results:

"The American Motorcyclist Association congratulates President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden on their historic victory. America's voters have spoken, and they are demanding fundamental change and accountability from our elected representatives.

"Motorcyclists also demand change and accountability. This nation's estimated 10 million riders currently face critical issues such as road access, health insurance discrimination and the right to responsibly enjoy our nation's public lands.

"In a time when more Americans, young and old, are discovering the fun, convenience, economy and utility of motorcycling, the AMA is anxious to begin working with the administration of President-elect Obama to ensure that the rights and futures of all motorcyclists are protected.

"In addition, the AMA will be working with our representatives -- newly elected or re-elected -- at all levels of government, and will be making every effort to assist them in understanding the concerns and needs of their motorcycling constituents."

About the American Motorcyclist Association
Since 1924, the AMA has promoted and protected the motorcycling lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of life and they navigate many different roads on their journey to the same destination: freedom on two wheels. As the world's largest motorcycle organization with nearly 300,000 members, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists' interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the committees of international governing organizations and the court of public opinion. Through member clubs, promoters and partners, the AMA sanctions more motorsports competition events than any other organization in the world. Through its Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the AMA preserves the heritage of motorcycling for future generations. For more information, visit

Shawn - Obama the socialist  May 2, 2009 06:16 AM
Why are we congratulating a man intent on taking away american freedoms, grow goverment, and nationalize private industry?
Kato-Yin and Yang - Motorcyclying Politics  November 10, 2008 05:53 PM
I agree that Politics should be discussed in our behalf, no one else is standing up for our rights...here in Texas they are making it harder and harder every year to enjoy the right to own a a motorcycle and we are still subject to unwarranted stops to check for what they consider compliance...please keep it going let's keep our rights to ride!
MCUSA Staff - Politics  November 10, 2008 08:39 AM
MCUSA is not trying to be political here, or upset anyone, just report the motorcycle news. We post almost all the press releases from the AMA and if the nation's largest rider organization comments on the presidential election, that's news, and we will post it.
Bill - Politics?  November 10, 2008 08:25 AM
Please can we keep this to motorcycles? This is my favorate website, But I will find another if you are going to be political..
Gister - Politics ARE related to motorcycles  November 6, 2008 10:58 AM
Ron...you speak of the problems you're experiencing in So. Oregon. The painful truth is that's a result of Federally mandated issues and regulations. The whole nation is experiencing those same problems. Bill..There are thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts that are battling statewide political issues just to keep their right to ride!! It's mostly off road issues of course, but none the less, its a way of life that certain political parties are trying to take away. Motorcycles and politics are very much related! We should absolutely discuss them, and thankfully there's orgs like AMA who understands the importance of legislative issues. The congratulatory letter was a smart move.
Dave - I have reservations but...  November 6, 2008 09:03 AM
I will wait and see what happens. With Environmentalist based wilderness bills running through the legislative branch I hope the President-Elect will protect and embrace the multiple use concept. I also hope that Obama will fund the land management agencies more than the republicans enphasizing the need to maintain and upgrade America's recreational facilities pn public lands.
Ron - RE: What the hell!  November 6, 2008 06:30 AM
Bill -I do not know where you are located, what type of riding you do or if you even ride at all, but here in Southern Oregon we have been faced with reductions, and even part closures of our off-road riding areas. Would you like that privilege taken from you? Our elected representatives have everything to do with "motorcycles" both on and off-road. 2Wheel Enthusiasts are getting pinched!
Poppawheelie - needed  November 5, 2008 05:02 PM
The congratulations are well put. Like it or not, we've got to be politically envolved to protect our rights.
Kellen - Nipit in the bud  November 5, 2008 04:57 PM
Hey get a good word in now! Maybe he will do something for motorcycling, who knows??
Bill - What the hell!  November 5, 2008 03:45 PM
