Riders prepare to split into their respective groups for instruction on Day 2.
With all the unbelievable talent on the starting gate, the folks at GNCC decided to try something new this year. They tapped the Am-Pro Yamaha team and used them as instructors for the inaugural GNCC University. Randy Hawkins and his crew shared their knowledge of go-fast techniques over the course of two days with 30 keen amateurs. ATV riders weren’t left out of the fun and 30 students were guided by Bill Ballance and his factory Yamaha team.

Traci Cecco was one of the ATV coaches.
With sold-out participation, the event went off better than everyone could have hoped. We heard nothing but positive comments from the riders, instructors and event coordinators, plus I had a great time as well. Jason Raines let me use his practice bike, a Yamaha YZ250. Adapting to the 2-stroke was hard enough, but getting to hit each section multiple times under watchful eyes was a major help. We’re going to get it set up a little better for me – minor things like bar, lever and foot control placement – and then I’ll give it a shot in the industry class on Sunday morning. Wish me luck and watch for a full story on the GNCC University. More importantly, watch for a new sign-up sheet so you won’t miss the next one!
