Sands of Time Running Low
Friday, September 25, 2009

The heavy, dark clouds, violent wind and biting rain are coming to the Oregon Coast, but on this day it was just me and the Can-Am DS 450.
Time is running slim for our good season of dune riding. The Oregon coast isn’t known for its sun-drenched beaches like our neighbors to the south. The cold, wet climate eases off through the summer months to provide a great getaway from the state’s interior heat. We recently visited for a few days and thrashed the 2009 Can-Am DS 450 MX along with some Suzuki QuadSport Z400s courtesy of
Medford Powersports. It was a great break from the usual but unless we come up with another reason to test in the sand or are willing to brave nasty weather later in the season, the dune season up here is running out.
It’s easy for us to take our sandy riding areas for granted, imagine what it must be like for the riders in Southern California. We were talking with some hard-core sand rats while we were on the beach and they all get bright-eyed at the mention of places like Glamis. Fortunately for those who live in the bottom left corner of the country, the riding season there is much longer.
