Chad Reed Racing for Monster Kawasaki

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Chad Reed is looking very comfortable on his new KX450F and the race practice will pay off when the AMA series starts.
The racing action is a little slow this time of year so for those of you who need a fix, try keeping track of the Australasian Supercross Championship. This is the series started by Chad Reed and he continues to use his own star power to promote it. As the reigning champion, Reed is defending his title with a one-point lead over Dan Reardon in the SX Open class.

The seven-race series known as Super-X is already two-deep so check out the website for more information – it’s actually a pretty good site with lots of great highlight videos. The multiple formats seem interesting for riders and fans alike. Round 6 will take the series to New Zealand for the first time and James Stewart has committed to racing down under. Perhaps tired of seeing Reed pad his career stats, JS7 is slated to attend the final round at Brisbane on Dec. 5 using the omnipotent 2010 Yamaha YZ450F.

Oh, did we mention that Reedy is competing for his new Monster Energy Kawasaki team?

2009 Super X Schedule:
Oct. 17 – Aurora Stadium, Launceston
Oct. 24 – Skilled Stadium, Geelong
Oct. 31 – Burswood Dome, Perth
Nov. 7 – Canberra Stadium, Canberra
Nov. 14 – Parramatta Stadium, Sydney
Nov. 21 – Waikato Stadium, New Zealand
Dec. 5 – QSAC Stadium, Brisbane

Well..... Kawi sent us the press release today, but it is dated Oct. 23. So take your pick! The important thing is that he's riding green indoors and out!!

Tim B - Reed Sucks!  October 29, 2009 09:20 AM
Reed IS padding is stats. Whether or not that's the reason he's racing, padded stats are the outcome. He's racing against mostly nobodies.

But it is great he started a series and his helping to promote it. At least he did something good for the sport we all love. Now only if he could win against the top pros. He has shown he can't win here when he has real competition so he had to go elsewhere to get some W's.

This is the beginning of the end for Team Kawi! Haha! I can't believe they signed him! BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I hate Reed and Kawasaki...can you tell?
JC - A spade is a spade, guys  October 29, 2009 09:14 AM
Is he or is he not promoting his own series with his own star power? Yes. And it's a smart business move on his part while trying to get this series off the ground. Is he then, by default, racing a sub-par level of competition? Yes.

I like the Super X series and Reed would be stupid not to compete, but it doesn't change the fact that he's racking up Australasian Super X Championships hand over fist. Sure sounds big, doesn't it?

I wonder how it works exactly... does he get win bonuses from Kawasaski or any of the event/personal sponsors? How about the purse money? Is he cleaning up the lion's share of that cash? So as a series promoter, he makes companies pay him for the right to provide purse money which he then goes and collects by winning. It's brilliant! Not to mention any revenue from fan attendance - all of whom are paying to watch him pull off this masterful scheme! Damn, the guy can't lose!!

Ok, seriously. I just threw all that out there to chew on, but really I don't know squat about the inner workings of promotion/advertising/sponsorship of this SX series down under. It's possible that Chad Reed is the smartest business man/racer in the world... but he's still padding his stats.
Steve - Pad his career stats  October 29, 2009 04:14 AM
I can't believe you would make such an arrogant statement! Chad is taking the sport that he loves and his fans love and trying to share it with his home country.
Reed Fan - Chad is the best ever  October 28, 2009 08:28 PM
Chad isn't padding his stats, he's the best racer right now and it won't make any difference if Stewart shows up or not! Go Reedy!
