Tommy Searle and Brett Metcalfe - AMA Motocross Lites Thunder Valley
Catching race footage on television can be difficult with erratic and inconvenient air times. The solution? Get a little down time with an injury.
I’m still one of the losers who don’t have TiVo or a DVR, and while my technological shortcomings are a little embarrassing, mostly I’m just pissed about the amount of racing I miss. Knee surgery has put me in the perfect position to enjoy all the programming my cable package has to offer – feet up, drugged up and surrounded by snacks and soft pillows.

Just today I’ve been catching up on Nitro Circus on Spike, AMA Pro Hillclimbing on SPEED and even some BITD 4-wheeled action on FSN (which was particularly crappy coverage, might I add). I still have to sort through the typical midday garbage like Dr. Phil and Tyra, but if there’s one good thing to come from knee surgery so far it’s been that I’m actually parked in front of the tube during the ridiculous air times. Being cooped up all day with no physical activity also starts to mess with my sleep schedule, so I stay up much later than normal. This too, allows for increased motorcycle viewing.

By the time 2010 Supercross kicks off, the bosses will be expecting me back in the office, so I still need to get that damn recording box. But, for the time being, I’m enjoying more TV coverage than ever before. If only it were actually race season and not just reruns… Check out our Motorcycle Racing TV Listings for info on what, when and where.

I think you're right, JackO. I find that when I sleep late and stay off of it, my knee shows faster improvement with swelling and pain (ACL replacement). As for the trails, R34, I woke up this morning to snow on the ground. Though pretty rare on the valley floor, it means our trails are probably just like your freezer grenade.

Look at the bright side...at least riding season hasn't kicked off yet. Single track in Oregon resembles my ice-grooved freezer from an drink explosion i forgot about. Get well brother...see you in the trees in no time.

Ahh. Knee Surgery. I feel your pain brother. The boob tube can get mighty boring can't it? From past experience, I give my advice, rest and get as much down time as you can! The more you rest, the quicker that dang knee will heal. Granted, I have no idea what kind of surgery you had, but I've had my share. More advice, get a DVR! Take care JC.
