I guess if you live where it’s cold enough and the powdery stuff is a daily factor, maybe a snow day doesn’t seem like such a big deal, but growing up in southern Oregon has engrained a giddy excitement whenever the forecast turns white. The massive storms across America this year have been headline news, but it’s all missed our neck of the woods for the most part. Since that’s the case, I’ve decide to go looking for a frozen play day elsewhere.

You’ve probably heard of 2Moto, or at least the concept of snow bike adaptations for motocross bikes and enduros. We tested one version of these products recently with OMA-KTM who loaned us a KTM 530 equipped with the EXPLORER, an AD Boivin product. It was an interesting experience to say the least, but it hardly whet my appetite. Despite all my preaching about playing in the snow, I’m not really much of a “cold” person, but these gadgets have caught my serious attention. So for the sake of testing and to bring you all the latest and greatest technology in the dirt bike world, I’ve packed my hand warmers, wool socks and borrowed some snowmobile gear from industry leader, Klim. Now it’s off to the frozen landscape of Boise, Idaho to hang with the 2Moto crew (there’s a 2 Live Crew joke in there somewhere but I just couldn’t dredge it up).

2Moto is located west of Boise in Nampa, ID. The young company has been gaining popularity and they’ve come up with the rad idea of holding a snow bike race on a golf course in McCall during the Winter Carnival. Every dirt rider’s dream! The event is called Ground Zero and it should be a riot with dudes like Mike Metzger, John Dowd, Steve Hatch and the hillclimbing Peterson Brothers, Bret and Robie. The whole shindig goes down on Feb 7 with the celebrity race and a full schedule of classes for regular snow bike owners. Since we’ll be in the area, we’ll make sure to get the scoop.
