John Dowd has Hands Full

They've only got half a day on these machines, but the learning curve for the Legends has been as steep as the snow-capped peaks around McCall, ID.
The celebrity riders for
2Moto’s ground-breaking snow bike race, Ground Zero, have all finally gotten their first taste of the trouble they’re in – and they can’t stop smiling about it. Mike Metzger, Steve Hatch, John Dowd, Bret Peterson, Alex Smith, Derek Mahoney and Robie Peterson spent three hours in the morning on a freeride through the hills and then got a couple hours on the ¾-mile moto track in McCall, ID.
According to GZ promoter, Ron Dillon, it was actually local rider, Richie Reynolds, who posted the fastest lap today on his Suzuki RM-Z. We weren’t given numbers, but apparently Dowdy was close behind. We would have guessed it was the other way around just by watching, so the racing tomorrow will be interesting. Junkyard is absolutely flying. Mahoney looks to be the next closest celebrity and the elder hillclimber, Robie, looked damn good as well. Who knows how it will shake down when the group has to somehow huck the 90-degree right-hander in Turn 1 as an adrenaline-crazed pack.
I’ve talked the promoter into letting the winner of the Trophy class line up for the final Legends moto so we’ll see how the format plays out with a potential Cinderella story. We’re going to be at the track to start practice at 10:45 tomorrow morning and witness a new sport officially christened.
