Last Friday, May 6th, thousands of female riders around the world celebrated the 5th International Female Ride Day and took their motorcycle or scooter to – “Just Ride!” From Vancouver to Cape Spear in Newfoundland, Los Angeles to New York, Paris, Paros, Budapest, Brisbane to Perth – and further, women riders celebrated! The globally synchronized happening has no other counterpart in the world. The day demonstrated once more that women riders from poles apart were passionate and devoted to sharing a kinship with each other in the activity of motorcycling. The 5th International Female Ride Day (IFRD) again preceded participating numbers from years prior as evidenced by reports, social media feedback and photo uploads underlining its enormous participating numbers and expansion. The event’s success makes a remarkable start for Motorcycle Safety Month, designated for the month of May, where women riders took the first step to demonstrate good motorcycling habits.
IFRD is the only event of its kind on the planet and has been bringing women motorcyclists together on one designated day since it began in 2007 - and 2011 superseded this “global rendez-vous”. In Budapest Hungary, women riders celebrated IFRD with a ride and a ceremonial group-dance in famed “Heroes’ Square”. At the same time, women scooted around the Greek Island of Paros with the IFRD flyer on their windscreen and another in Paris France posed at the base of the Eiffel Tower while wearing her IFRD t-shirt! “I could not be more delighted on this 5th occasion as women riders got out there with a force that could not go unnoticed! The campaign continues to broaden its reach with more women riders joining in and of course, those who every year now host their usual local event or planned ride. Let’s face it, it’s a fun event to be part of, every single woman rider plays a role- it’s purely for women riders, not about the brand they ride, their skill level or their age. Women appreciate that and take great pride in being “the” component of the mission”, says Vicki Gray, founder of the International Female Ride Day and of MOTORESS. “Women agree with the campaign and their growing participation is the most rewarding fact we can have”, states Vicki adding that International Female Ride Day’s objective is that of bringing awareness to the number of women who ride while encouraging others to take up the activity.
The 6th edition of the International Female Ride Day will be on May 4th, 2012.
