Brett Metcalfe made a name for himself down-under before turning his attention to the American scene.
Australian native Brett ‘Metty’ Metcalfe burst into American Motocross in 2003 after racing since the tender age of four in his native country. Riding aboard the Red Bull KTM, Metcalfe earned a fifth-place overall finish in the Supercross Lites East series and 14th in the Motocross Lites Championship.
The following year, Metcalfe slipped downward slightly to eighth in Supercross and 17th in the outdoors. By 2005, Metcalfe had joined Yamaha of Troy and won the Lites class at the U.S. Open of Supercross. He also made his debut in the West Region and earned multiple top-five spots on his way to sixth overall in the series. However, he continued to struggle in Motocross where he placed 18th.
During his final year as a Yamaha pilot, Metcalfe garnered top-10 spots in both the outdoors and Supercross before switching to the Pro Circuit Kawasaki team for 2007. After the switch to the green machine, Metcalfe finished seventh-overall in the Motocross Nationals despite missing the entire Supercross series and four rounds of the outdoor season.
After resigning from Kawasaki in 2008, he enjoyed moderate success with three podiums in the Supercross Lites West series. He also placed third overall in the 250 AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
In 2009 Metcalfe made the jump to the GEICO Powersports Honda squad to pilot the CRF250R in both the SX Lites and 250 MX class. It seemed like things had started to click; he won the first round in Houston, but his celebration was short-lived when he broke his collarbone

and wrist, forcing him out for the remainder of the season. All healed-up, a determined Metcalfe came back in the 250 Motocross series later that year and proved his mettle by fighting to 11 top-10 finishes, putting him third in the championship race.
In 2010 Metcalfe continued to excel in Supercross, especially late in the season when he finished inside the top-five for three straight races. His success in SX was far outmatched by his outstanding season in Motocross, however, where he made the move up to the 450s and finished second overall.
In 2011 Metcalfe switched to a Suzuki while moving up to the premier SX class. Competing in the first nine rounds, his best finish took place in Oakland before suffering a wrist injury later in the season. The Aussie returned strong in the outdoor nationals though, fighting to fourth overall in the championship with five podiums. Since 2006, Metcalfe has yet to finish outside the top-five outdoors.
For 2012 Metcalfe has earned a spot on the Yoshimura Suzuki squad.
