The Yamaha FZ6R is an all-new entry into the Tuning Fork brand’s lineup, with the 600cc bike aimed at new riders.
With its sights set at the more sporting end of the 750cc and smaller sport motorcycle market, Yamaha has released an all-new model: The FZ6R. And while it may look like an FZ6 with a bigger fairing, it’s actually a whole new motorcycle.
Propelling the new FZR is a 600cc inline-four that is pulled from the previous generation YZF-R6 and features forged pistons with a cylinder head redesigned to optimize air/fuel and low-mid rpm. 32mm throttle bodies feed the middleweight, while spent gasses are exited out a 4-1 exhaust system with a midship muffler that exits under the motorcycle. This is all aimed to make for a quick, yet easy-to-ride motorcycle that is designed with the beginner and intermediate rider in mind.
An all-new steel frame cradles the powerplant. A reduced number of welds were used to make for more precise chassis flex characteristics. And a first for a motorcycle in this market segment is an adjustable riding position. Standard in the low position, the seat can be adjusted 200 higher up, while the handlebar position can also be rotated for 20mm forward adjustability.
Cast aluminum wheels keep rotating mass down, as do 298mm dual front disc brakes. The most noticeable difference is the full faring and totally updated styling, making for a much sportier look. Available colors are Yamaha Racing Blue, Raven Black with red accents, yellow and black, and white and black, which is aimed directly at the female market segment. And according to Yamaha research, 29 percent of all entry sport riders are women. Retail prices start at $6990 for the Raven black and $7090 for the rest. They will hit dealers come January.
