A North Carolina native, Austin Stroupe has emerged as a potential title contender in the Supercross Lites class. Riding for Team Green Kawasaki Stroupe enjoyed great success in the amateur ranks, with 11 championships earned.
2008 was Stroupe’s first full year in professional racing, and he didn’t fail expectations. He finished third overall in the West Region standings, which included a win in Houston, Texas. He backed this strong showing with another during the Motocross season, winning the season opener at Glen Helen. Shortly afterward Stroupe dropped out with a reported illness.
Campaigning for Suzuki in the pro ranks, Stroupe was the lead contender to Christophe Pourcel in the 2010 East Coast Lites Supercross championship until a separated shoulder during Round 7 of the eight-round series forced the RM-Z250 rider out. The 19-year-old then put his focus on the outdoor season, but his MX season was also cut short after braking his hip during the first round at Hangtown.
In 2011 Stroupe joined with Star Valli Motorsports Yamaha and entered the premier class aboard a Yamaha YZ450F. Lingering problems with his shoulder, however, limited his participation in supercross. The 20-year-old also suffered a broken back in the middle of the outdoor season which concluded an injury-plagued rookie season for Stroupe in the premier class.
For 2012 Stroupe is returning to the premier class with Star Valli Yamaha and new teammate, Ryan Morais.
