Riders for Health, the official charity of MotoGP, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, have announced that 50 lucky motorcycle racing fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a “Day of Stars” for a unique insider’s look at the 2009 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. “Day of Stars” is hosted by Riders co-founder and MotoGP legend Randy Mamola and offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at MotoGP racing. The day-long event takes place on Thursday, July 2, before the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway. The “Day of Stars” is a benefit for Riders for Health, the international charity that provides transportation for health care delivery in Africa.
Riders for Health “Day of Stars” will include a VIP three-day motorcycle or car parking pass for the Red Bull US Grand Prix, a half-day motorcycle tour of Carmel Valley’s wine country and catered lunch with motorcycle legends Randy Mamola, Wayne Rainey, Don Emde and other celebrities. The highlight of the event is an afternoon of meet-and-greet with past and present MotoGP stars. Last year, MotoGP riders Loris Capirossi, Randy DePuniet, Colin Edwards, Tony Elias, Sylvain Guintoli, Marco Melandri, Ben Spies and James Toseland attended the afternoon session with special guests and Grand Prix legends Eddie Lawson and Kenny Roberts joining them. Lucky fans who attend “Day of Stars” will also receive an exclusive tour of the MotoGP pit lane and paddock and three parade laps around the circuit including the Corkscrew.
On Thursday, July 2, at 4:00 PM, the public is invited to a live auction of autographed MotoGP memorabilia including Nicky Hayden signed items, VIP hospitality suite tickets to the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, exclusive Ducati merchandise, and many unique MotoGP items. The auction is at Turn Four of the Mazda Raceway. The auction is open to public, free of admission and parking fees. Proceeds of the auction will go to Riders for Health.

Riders for Health is an international non-governmental organization born out of the world of motorcycle racing. Its mission is to ensure that health workers in Africa have uninterrupted access to reliable transportation. Without transportation, health care projects fail. Using an innovative social enterprise model, Riders has developed a practical, dynamic approach which is helping to achieve real and sustainable development. They have put in place reliable preventive maintenance systems for two- and four-wheeled vehicles used in health care delivery enabling health workers to reach 11 million people in rural Africa on a regular basis.
Riders for Health currently operates programs in the Gambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Lesotho and Nigeria, where it works with ministries of health, UN agencies and local humanitarian organizations. All programs are managed by African teams, not by volunteers or expatriates. This means that Riders for Health is able to build a lasting base of local knowledge and a culture of maintenance in the communities with which it works.
Riders for Health is the official charity of MotoGP and motorcycle sport’s ruling body, the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The quality and innovation that Riders for Health brings to its programs in the field have been recognized globally on many occasions. In particular, Riders for Health is regarded worldwide as a leading example of social enterprise.
