Matt Goerke - 2009 AMA Motocross - Southwick
Rider: Matt Goerke
Team: TiLUBE Kawasaki
Machine: Kawasaki KX450F (#39)
Born: May 1, 1986 in Daytona Beach, FL

Matt Goerke made a small but important professional appearance as an amateur at the 2004 Southwick National, finishing 13th and earning himself the Skoal Top Privateer Award. The year afterward, he returned at Budds Creek with a repeat top-20 performance and captured the Skoal Top Privateer award yet again.
In 2005 Goerke made his professional debut aboard a Star Racing Yamaha YZ250F, but his premier SX Lites display in the East didn’t fulfill expectations. Despite earning top-five finishes in Atlanta and Houston, he chose instead to focus on motocross. He entered the Lites class before moving up to the premier MX class, earning top-five finishes in Washougal and Millville. He rounded out the season in 18th-place and was steadily gaining experience on a professional level.
Goerke continued to represent Star Racing in 2006 and finished 18th in the Supercross Lites East series, which included two top-five results. He also participated in motocross where he had another pair of top-five finishes. The following season he came out strong, earning a career-best of ninth overall in the East Lites class and with podium finishes at Atlanta and St. Louis. The outdoor season brought both good and bad results for Goerke as he failed to earn points in seven races, yet still achieved 14th overall in the series.
He then signed with the MDK KTM Factory Lites squad for 2008 and led his team to 11th in the East Coast SX series. During the opening round of the ‘08 Nationals, a poor first moto left him outside the top-10. By Round 4 Goerke had moved up to ninth in points before making the choice to move up to a 450 for the last two rounds. During his debut ride on a KTM 450 at Southwick, he surpassed many seasoned 450 riders to finish fifth – his best result of the season. Although his second moto was disappointing, Goerke confirmed he’s a new force to be reckoned with in the 450 class.
During the 2009 season Goerke had his highest finish of

fourth at St. Louis. Shortly afterward he continued to improve in the 450 MX class and managed a podium finish at Budd’s Creek while riding outdoors. In 2010 he signed on with MotoConcepts Yamaha. However, while training for Supercross he crashed and broke his lower right leg. Goerke later returned from his injury with mediocre results, but did have another podium finish at Southwick toward the end of the season.

After signing with Tilube Kawasaki for 2011 Goerke encountered more misfortune when he injured his ankle during practice before the opening SX round. Only racing three rounds in 2011, Goerke managed to further injure himself at Jacksonville where he shattered his wrist and broke his pelvis.

Goerke moved to BTO Sports as a fill-in rider for 2012, but had a lackluster showing in SX, missing the first five rounds and marking a season best result of 11th in the Salt Lake City round. He went on to contest the Canadian Outdoor Championship with the Leading Edge Kawasaki Team and had much better results, taking the overall win in MX1. Goerke also enjoyed success in the Montreal SX Invitational where he came out on top in the 450 final and Superfinal, a race that pits 450s and 250s against one another. He will contest the 2013 SX season with BTO Sports once again, riding a KTM 450 SX-F alongside teammate Michael Byrne.
