The EOS Estate Winery in Paso Robles, Calif., and Indianapolis Motor Speedway recently announced a partnership to produce a limited series of reserve wine offerings.

Two wines were released in December 2008: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2006 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon and The Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2006 “Brickyard Red” Paso Robles Red Varietal Blend. Additional wines in the series are expected later in 2009.

Established in 1909, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is an icon of motorsports excellence. The legend of “The Brickyard” has been forged through the Indianapolis 500, the largest single-day sporting event on Earth, and has expanded through other annual world-class motorsports events at the track, including the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard and Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

The distinctive character of the facility, privately owned by the Hulman-George family since 1945, reinforces its status as “The Greatest Race Course in the World.”

“The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was in search of a producer of quality, outstanding wines to help us celebrate our Centennial Era in 2009 and beyond, and we found that in EOS Estate Winery,” said Joie Chitwood, president and chief operating officer of IMS. “We’re confident the limited Indianapolis Motor Speedway series produced by EOS will find its way into the collection of wine connoisseurs as well as the dinner table of casual wine enthusiasts.”

Located in the premier growing region of Paso Robles, EOS Estate Winery has become a leading producer of award-winning varietal wines and a destination for travelers. In 2008, the winery converted entirely to solar power, making it the largest winery on California’s Central Coast to run entirely on alternative energy.

“It was very important to us that our team crafted wines for this program that both represented the prestigious history of the Speedway and reinforced the excitement and promise of our association with IMS,” says Chris Vix, vice president of international sales at EOS Estate Winery.

According to Winemaker Nathan Carlson, the barrel lots selected for these blends were among the finest the winery produced from the 2006 harvest. EOS is recognized as a key Paso Robles producer of Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varietal blends. Among several accolades, the EOS 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon earned a Gold Medal and 94-point score at the 2008 California State Fair Wine Competition.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway wines are distributed in Indiana by National Wine & Spirits, with expanding U.S. distribution in 2009. They also will be sold on the EOS Estate Winery Web site, www.eosvintage.com, or ordered by calling (800) 249-9463.
