A great weekend of motorcycle racing in Mallory Park, starting with the SuperMoto Grand Prix, ended today with David Philippaerts winning the MX1 Grand Prix and Marvin Musquin the MX2.

Both started from pole which they took through yesterday’s qualifying heat wins. Nagl and Desalle completed the MX1 podium while Championship leader Cairoli ended eighth overall after yesterday’s crash. Frossard and Paulin completed the podium behind red plate holder Musquin. Series leader Iven dominated round three of the FIM Veterans’ World Cup ahead of Nilsson and LherIteau as the Belgian remains on top of the standings.

Coming back to victory after his latest appearance on the top of the podium at Loket 2008, Yamaha Monster Energy Motocross’ Philippaerts stormed from fifth to second in the Championship as he picked up 47 precious points while Championship leader Cairoli and third placed Barragan struggled.

Yamaha Red Bull De Carli’s Cairoli suffered after Saturday’s crash and soldiered on to finish both heats and take eighth overall, retaining the red plate eventually. Barragan was handed third by Nagl –who crashed- in heat one but a crash in moto two ruled the KTM Silver Action Spaniard out with a broken clutch.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Nagl took second on his first season podium as the German looked the strongest on the track today. Leading most of heat one, he fought back after Philippaerts snatched the lead but crashed and ended fourth. In heat two he took his revenge dominating ahead of the defending Champion.

Yamaha fellow riders Coppins and Leok rounded off the top five ahead of a solid Pichon and injured De Dycker.

Home hero Billy Mackenzie struggled with an injured thumb to end 13th overall.
