The 2010 Honda CRF250R features fuel injection and has ditched the dual exhaust first seen on the 2007 model.
Already a dominating presence in the 250 MX class, the Honda CRF250R joins the ranks of the fuel-injected motocrossers for 2010. And while Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) highlights the 2010 CRF250R spec sheet, Honda has given its 250 thumper a working over, with the new engine also rolling on a redesigned chassis. Keen-eyed readers will also immediately note Honda has ditched its dual muffler exhaust, returning to a more conventional single-can system.
Honda claims a more compact 249cc Unicam Single powers the 2010 CRF, with lower center of gravity and better mass centralization. Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection system (PGM-FI) delivers precise fuel/air mixture through the 50mm throttle body and 12-hole injector. The FI system promises improved response and quick starts.

Other engine changes for the 2010 Honda dirt bike include a more durable water pump and larger AC generator. The new mill also requires revised transmission ratios to “match engine power output.” As for the return to single-muffler exhaust, Honda claims it improves mass centralization (but weren’t the distinctive dual canisters supposed to provide superior balance?).
The chassis is revitalized for 2010 as well. First is the new twin-spar aluminum frame and forged aluminum steering head, with a slightly pared down spar height (70 to 66mm) and width (22 to 20mm). The frame allows a reduction of triple clamp offset from 22 to 20mm. The rear subframe is tweaked too, for a narrower profile and easier access to the air filter – the airbox also new and higher capacity.
Honda’s Progressive Steering Damper returns, attached to the lower triple clamp and steering head. Honda promises improved overall handling and steering from the new front wheel position, 15mm closer to the engine.
Meanwhile, the 48mm Showa sticks up front and a single rear Showa shock take care of suspension duties. The front fork features 12.2-inches of travel and 16-position rebound/18-position compression adjustment. Sporting 12.6-inches travel, the shock is adjustable for preload, 20-position rebound, with separate high and low-speed compression.

The claimed 226-lb curb weight is nearly identical to the ’09’s 227-lb spec sheet weight. Not identical, however, is the MSRP – Honda PR announcing the new fuel-injected CRF250R to cost $7199, a $200 increase from 2009.
