Nickelback Live at Sturgis 2006 DVD
Bikes! Babes! Bands! Those three words on the jacket cover pretty much sum it up. The only thing that could have made it better is if Chad Kroeger rode a motorcycle out on stage to get the party started.

I confess. I’ve had this DVD on my desk for months waiting for the right time to check it out. With Sturgis less than a week away, I needed something to get me in the right frame of mind. The time was nigh.

Bikes! Babes! Bands! said the Nickelback Live at Sturgis 2006 jacket sleeve. I’m thinking “I like this video already.” How could over an hour’s worth of Chad Kroeger and his band Nickelback jamming live in front of 35,000 screaming fans at Sturgis’ ‘Rocking the Rally’ show in 2006 be a bad thing?
The video starts with high-energy. As soon as Chad takes the stage and rips into the song ‘Animals,’ you immediately feel like you’re there. You can almost feel the bass pouring out of the stacks of speakers surrounding the stage and feel the crush of sweating bodies around you.
The video is professionally shot, showing the band from various angles, from pans to close-ups. The production company used 15 high-def cameras to capture the action. Transitioning footage from the band to the crowd keeps it interesting. The crowd’s enthusiasm is apparent, hands raised, heads bobbing, singing along to every song.
There’s some profanity, a few F-bombs, and topless girls, so it’s definitely not G-rated, but nothing too trashy. When you think of Sturgis, it’s fairly tame overall. It’s nothing compared to walking around the camping area of the Buffalo Chip.
High def, crisp, clear audio, plenty of popular, radio-aired songs. Chicks will dig it because of Chad Kroeger. Dudes will dig it because of the gratuitous boob shots. Anybody who’s a fan of Nickelback will enjoy it.

Nickelback at Sturgis.
We were looking to get in the mood for Sturgis 2009, so we threw in a copy of the Nickelback Live at Sturgis 2006 video, turned up our speakers, and did some head banging around the office.

You never know how live footage is going to sound, but the band sounds as good live as it does in the studio. The video comes with four purportedly distortion-free, full range sound options including SRS Circle Surround, DTS and Dolby 5.1, Digital Surround Sound and Stereo.

Bonus features include a behind-the-scenes documentary with backstage interviews with the band, the ‘Rockstar’ music video, a photo gallery, and a Sturgis 101 primer.
The Sturgis 101 primer shows different shots from the scene. Five minutes long, clips include everything from dirt track racing and hill climbing to shots from Main St. Sturgis. It delves quickly into the history of the rally and its originators, the Jackpine Gypsies. Scenic shots from the area give you a teaser of the great riding that’s to be had. Finally, it cuts to the popular Glencoe Camp Resort, and talks about its five-day music festival called ‘Rockin’ the Rally’ where Nickelback performed.
I found Nickelback Live at Sturgis 2006 listed on for $16.99. Got a biker friend who’s into Nickelback and has a birthday coming up? Here’s a gift idea for you. Looking to get in the mood for Sturgis? Then definitely check it out. It got me rarin’ to go.
