The 2010 arenacross season is officially underway and fans packed the Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena to witness Kawasaki pilots Chad Johnson and Tyler Bower take the main event honors on Friday and Saturday nights.

Arenacross Friday
Babbitt’s Monster Energy TiLube rider Johnson got off to a rough start on Friday night and by the end of Lap 1, the two-time champ found himself down in seventh. The determined Johnson worked his way up through the field to close the gap on the leader Jeff Gibson. The defending champion did his best to hold off Johnson but relegated the lead with four laps to go. Gibson managed to retain his second-place finish by the checkers.

For the Lites main event, Storm Lake Honda’s Kurt McCabe garnered an early lead and rode it all the way to the finish line. Runner-up Daniel Aulsaybrook narrowly missed snatching the honor ahead from McCabe, taking second ahead of Yamaha’s Tyler Bright.

Arenacross Saturday
Babbitt’s Monster Energy Tyler Bowers faced stiff competition on Saturday night in his quest to secure his first win of the season. During the early part of the main event, Bowers was involved in three-way battle for the lead with teammate Josh Demuth and KTM’s Kelly Smith. The Kentucky native managed to sweep past the two contenders and take the win with Demuth and Spinechiller’s Zach Ames in second and third, respectively.

A red flag was thrown out on Lap 8 in the Lites main event forcing a restart and it was Taylor Futrell who grabbed the lead. The rookie pushed his Honda to his first career victory over veteran Jim Neese in second and fellow Honda rider Ryan Zimmer in third.

The Arenacross caravan now moves to Baltimore, Maryland for the next event January 15th through the 17th at the Mariner Arena. Tickets are available online at www.arenacross.com, www.ticketmaster.com, www.tickets.com. For more information on the AMA Arenacross Series log on to www.arenacross.com.
