Taking the lead from Brookes in the second to last lap of Race 1, Tommy Hill got his second victory of the season.
In another great start off the line, Swan Honda’s Stuart Easton got the lead on Tommy Hill and Yukio Kagayama. Hill did not take long to put the pressure on Easton, and by the end of the opening lap both were battling for first.
Suzuki’s Yukio Kagayama, not content with being behind his teammate, pushed his way through to second into Club Chicane at the end of Lap 3. Dan Linfoot crashed out on the next lap in a battle for eighth-place, and shortly afterward Howie Mainwaring lost control of his MSS Colchester Kawasaki on Lap 7.
Brookes began advancing hard on Lap 11, passing Hill and eventually taking third-place by the end of the lap. By Lap 15 Brookes was in the lead, but a fierce battle was taking place for second between Suzuki’s Hill and Kagayama. On Lap 18 Hill made a move passed the Japanese ace in the Club Chicane.
Swan Honda’s Stuart Easton had a great start in Race 1 at Thruxton. His lead didn’t last long, however, and he ended the race just off the podium in fourth.
Hill swept the lead from Brookes on the second to last lap and slowly distanced himself from second, eventually winning the race, scoring his first podium of the season.
After a quick start off the line, Brookes led MSS Colchester Kawasaki’s Gary Mason and Suzuki’s Tommy Hill. By Lap 3 Hill had moved to second and was closing in on Brooks, who had separated himself from Tommy by a few bike lengths.
Honda’s Stuart Easton stayed in back, ending Lap 1 in seventh place. However, by the fifth lap Easton had advanced up to fifth as Brookes, Hill, Kagayama, and Michael Rutter all fought for position. By Lap 9 he moved to third-place by rocketing past Rutter. Ducati’s Martin Jessopp simultaneously worked his way through riders and settled into third-place, ahead of Easton.
A battle for third ensued as Jessopp and Easton traded positions for multiple laps. Easton was able to maintain third while Jessopp was overtaken by HM Plant Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari. Up front, Hill remained close behind his Australian rival Brookes. Unable to eventually make the pass, Hill took a second-place finish in Race 2 at Thruxton as Josh Brookes raced to the checkers.
