HM Plant Superbike Ace Steve Plater will not compete in the Relentless North West 200 after a practice crash on Thursday left him with an injured wrist.

HM Plant Honda rider and reigning British Superbike champion Steve Plater was involved in a crash at Quarry Hill leading to the start-finish line during Thursday’s Superbike practice session. An official report has not been released, however the word at the track is the 41-year-old has a broken wrist. This is an unfortunate turn of events for the eight-time NW200 winner, who had already secured pole position for the Superbike final.

Issued on behalf of the HM Plant Honda Team:
“On the opening lap of the Superbike Practice session Steve Plater had a crash at the final corner. Steve’s injuries are not life-threatening and he was able to speak to the medical team and the HM Plant Honda Team Manager at the scene. He is understandably in pain and therefore has been administered with pain-killing treatment and is now in hospital where he can be examined further to establish the precise nature of any injuries he may have sustained. Steve would like to thank everyone for the numerous good wishes already received and the team will issue a further update in due course.”

Without Plater in the mix, things are wide-open again in the Superbike class. Runner-up John McGuiness now finds himself essentially on pole for the bike race on Saturday. The HM Plant rider out-qualified Keith Amor and Conor Cummings with his efforts on Thursday.
