Ashley Fiolek takes the 2010 MotoUSA Womens Motocross Freestone Holeshot.
Red Bull Honda’s Ashley Fiolek brought an end to Jessica Patterson’s winning streak by taking the double victory at Red Bud.

In her debut race at Red Bud, defending WMX champion Ashley Fiolek took the holeshot in Moto 1 over DNA Shred Stix Yamaha’s Jessica Patterson and TLD Honda’s Tarah Geiger. Following the top-three riders were Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Sara Price and Vicki Golden in fourth and fifth, respectively. It wasn’t long before Patterson began pressuring Fiolek for the lead, and in the first few laps it appeared as though Patterson would overtake Fiolek and keep her winning streak alive.
However, at the halfway point in the competition downed riders forced Fiolek and Patterson to use different lines. As Patterson approached the downed riders she was caught up and lost valuable seconds on Fiolek. In the end Patterson was able to make up time on the leader, but it was too late as Fiolek took her first win of the ’10 season. Meanwhile, Geiger maintained her position throughout the moto for third. Rounding out the top-five finishers in Moto 1 were Golden in fourth and Mariana Balbi in fifth.
In the second moto Fiolek proved her skill at earning holeshots by rocketing out of the gates ahead of Patterson and Price. Rounding out the top-five riders at the end of the opening lap were Golden and Jagermeister KTM’s Sarah Whitemore. After taking fourth in Moto 1, Golden found herself back in 27th at the start of Moto 2.

By Lap 3 Patterson was riding the rear wheel of Fiolek, playing a cat and mouse game with her. Further back Price on the #4 Kawasaki overtook Geiger for third, and after making some mistakes Whitemore had dropped out of the top-five and was running ninth. As the race passed the halfway point, Fiolek and Patterson remained separated by less than one second as the two competed way ahead of the pack.
In the final laps Patterson picked up the pace and began clocking faster lap times than Fiolek. With just a few laps to go and her perfect season in jeopardy, Patterson tried but was unable to find her way around Fiolek. The Honda rider took the double victory and the overall win with a good defense in Moto 2. Patterson and Geiger finished second and third, respectively. Price took fourth overall after a score of 7-4, and Balbi rounded out the top-five with her combined 5-5. With Fiolek’s double victory she moves within 20 points of the current championship leader Patterson.
