RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing’s Jake Holden snared his first XR1200 race victory on Sunday at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The 27-year-old took the win by more than 10 seconds ahead of Celtic Racing’s P.J. Jacobsen, who was followed in third by Kyle Wyman just 0.203 seconds behind.

“I was smoking my hush puppies on the start,” Holden said. “I almost looped it. I knew I had to get out there and possibly make a gap because I knew these guys were starting to pick up the pace. I felt like I was pushing the envelope there for a bit after I got by Kyle and PJ trying to break a gap. Then just put my head down and went for the win.”

Despite a tense moment halfway through the contest, Motorcycle-USA.com’s Steve Atlas took home a fourth-place finish aboard his Hog Racing XR1200 machine.

“The race was a lot of fun,” Atlas said. “It helped to qualify on the front row and get away with Jacobson and Kyle Wyman. We had a good race for the podium for the first half of the race until I had a big moment and tucked the front in Turn 11. That allowed them to get a gap and once I lost the draft it was over. We ran well though and fourth is a solid finish. But most of all it was a blast!”

Following Atlas was Kyle Wyman’s brother, Travis Wyman, who finished fifth and more than 49 seconds off the pace of the leader.

The next and final round of the XR1200 series takes place at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama on September 24th-26th.
