Motorcycle Holiday Gift Guide: Dirt Accessories

December 9, 2010
Everyone loves to accessorize their motorcycle. That’s why all the classified ads have lists of every single bolt-on goodie that has found its way on to a bike.Adding extras to your machine can bring value and performance, but not every product out there is right for everyone. The dirt bike riders among us put together a quick list of items that have proven to be some of our favorites in the Holiday Gift Guide to Dirt Bike Acessories:

Dunlop offers a line of Geomax tires. The MX51 intermediate terrain blends durability and performance on a wide array of soil conditions.

Dunlop MX51 Geomax Intermediate Tire
Tires are the highest wear item on your dirt bike, and since they need to be replaced so often, it’s a great item to try new products. Dunlop’s Geomax line of motocross tires has replaced some long-standing rubber. Our favorite is the intermediate terrain MX51. Unless you ride in very specific conditions, a regular day at the track might be muddy for practice, loam in Moto 1 and slick, dusty marbles in Moto 2. Having a tire that can cover all the bases is something we count on from the MX51. Recessed biting edges, tie-bar construction for added stiffness and Dunlop’s cross-stitch block distribution help turn your bike’s power into race-winning acceleration. – JC

RK Sprocket and Chain Kits
One of the simplest ways to tune power for your needs is by swapping out sprockets, but ordering up two new cogs and a chain with the proper amount of links can be a hassle. RK makes it simple with racer kits that come with all three in a single package. Stock configurations are available as well as acceleration kits which feature a larger rear sprocket. RK also offers multiple chain types and a choice between steel or aluminum sprockets. A worn out chain will ruin a new sprocket and vice-versa. The RK Sprocket and Chain Kits make customizing performance and keeping the drive system fresh as simple as possible. – JC

FMF Factory 4.1 Slip-On Exhaust
Juicing up your modern four-stroke bike with a performance muffler is one of the first things you can do to get more horsepower and torque. It also has the benefit of altering the exhaust note and can make your bike off-road legal with a spark arrestor. FMF is one of the top dirt bike exhaust manufacturers and it offers the Factory 4.1 Slip-On Exhaust. Made in America with American materials, the 4.1 uses chamber core technology, a titanium canister and endcap and is available with a series of inserts to meet your specific needs. Going fast is the key to winning, but slowing down is equally important. Oversized front brakes are the ticket.

Braking Batfly 270mm Oversized Front Rotor Kit
Speed kills, therefore brakes save. Bolt on a Braking Batfly 270mm Oversized Front Rotor Kit and you’ll be impressed by the added stopping power and brake feel when you squeeze the front lever. The kit includes a rotor and relocation bracket for the front brake caliper as well as a set of high-friction brake pads. The “Batfly” name stems from the unique shape of the disc in which black grooves on the rotor track are designed to more effectively dissipate heat. Braking’s setup is compatible for virtually all late-model off-road and motocross bikes. – Adam

Renthal Kevlar Dual Compound Half-Waffle Grips
A comfortable set of hand grips is one of the best and least expensive upgrade you can make to your dirt bike. I prefer the Renthal Kevlar Dual Compound half-waffle grips. The cool thing about these handholds is that they offer the best of both worlds: The dual compound Kevlar design allows them to be tough and durable but then soft when squeezed, which helps reduce hand and arm fatigue during motos. The grips are simple to install and have proven to last much longer than other brand names. – Adam
