Andrew Short
Andrew Short will lead KTM’s charge in the Supercross Championship aboard the 350 SX-F.

One of the major developments taking place during the off-season was the signing of Andrew Short to Red Bull KTM. As a longtime Honda rider Short had an established relationship with his team and the switch from red to orange was a drastic one. The 2011 Supercross season will see Shorty pilot the KTM 350 SX-F alongside Mike Alessi while KTM invests hopes in Marvin Musquin and Ken Roczen for the Lites class. Help powering the team will be none other than Roger De Coster, who helped Ryan Dungey learn the ropes prior to his championship victory.
“I think that KTM is really pushing forward to be successful here in America,” said Short. “Supercross is kind of the last piece to the puzzle for KTM and they are putting the right infrastructure in the right places. A Supercross title is not something you just buy, you have to earn it and KTM is moving in the right direction.”
Short was initially given a choice between riding the KTM 350 or 450, and after some initial tests the 28-year-old from Tulsa, Oklahoma chose the 350.
“I decided that we didn’t need to even try a 450 for Supercross and that our best option to be competitive was to race the 350,” added Short. “A lot of hard work has gone into it these last few months and now we just have to go racing and see where we stand against the other bikes.”
Tension is high for the opening round of the 2011 Supercross season, which will be the first time we see the 350 machine in SX action. Shorty is coming off a favorable season in AMA Motocross having claimed third overall in the series behind Ryan Dungey and Brett Metcalfe. Injury prevented Short from competing in the full 2010 Supercross season, and with a new team and new bike Short will be one of the many riders looking to strike early in the first round of Supercross at Anaheim.
