Team U.S.A has thrown it’s hat into the 2011 Australasian Safari which is set to kick off on the 23rd of September. Competitors will traverse outback roads and tracks via a route that takes in a great variety of geographical challenges over 7 days and for the first time the Safari will incorporate an “International Teams Cup”. Ex-professional Motocrosser and Ex-pat Aussie Justin Maley has been selected to Captain Team U.S.A and charged with finding suitable riders to take on this arduous event. “It’s a great honor to captain this team, the logistical challenge is going to be huge but we have some great people helping us out, some awesome sponsors coming on board and we have a long list of top shelf riders that have expressed interest already” said Maley.

In the first day alone competitors traveled 356 kilometers.

Western Australia will again play host to this exciting event, frequently referred to as Australia’s version of ‘Paris to Dakar’, for the fifth time in 2011 showcasing the incredibly diverse landscape the state has to offer. The race attracts some of the world’s most talented and extreme motorsport competitors, including V8 Supercar legend Craig Lowndes, who took the 4×4 Safari crown in 2010, in his first ever off-road race appearance. The 2011 Australasian Safari is timed to fit the Australian motorsport and V8 Supercar Championship Series calendar so record competitor numbers are expected in a race that gathers momentum with each year. Starting on the 23rd of September this year the Safari will cover several thousand kilometers across the Australian Outback.
The U.S Navy has also started discussing the possibility of sending it’s own team of riders made up of NAVY Seals. “With interest in the event growing so quickly it is a distinct possibility that we will be able to send three teams this year. An A team, a B team and the Seal team would be an amazing thing” Maley went on to say.
