The organizers of the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show have announced that the prestigious AMD World Custom Bike Building Competition is to return to the RDS on March 4-6. For the first time Ireland’s AMD World Championship qualifiers will be open to International competitors.

Ruth Lemass, event organizer commented “There has been a massive expansion in the custom bike market in the last decade and even in the current economic climate, this sector of the industry is still proving to be very vibrant and healthy. We are very proud that we have added an international category to the competition which has resulted in a record number of bikes entering both nationally and from abroad. Custom bike builders will spend months, even years, perfecting their designs, and the RDS is the perfect venue to showcase their creations to a large and enthusiastic audience.”

The addition of the International Category has been made possible by an increase in the prize fund from Zodiac International, a highly successful global brand that have established themselves as prime movers in the burgeoning custom parts supply market. This increase and the addition of the new International Category, alongside the popular Harley-Davidson-sponsored Modified Harley Class, means that there will now be two competitors who will qualify for the World Championship Finals in Sturgis, USA.

Ruth Lemass added “This is not just good for the show and the custom bike scene in Ireland, it is a shot in the arm for the bike industry and the country as a whole and we look forward to a long and successful association with Zodiac International.”

The Overall Irish Winner will not only receive the title of “Irish AMD Champion Custom Bike Builder 2011” but will also win €5,000 valued trip to compete in the AMD World Championship Finals of Custom Bike Building in Sturgis, USA. The international section winner will receive the same prize.

Sturgis is a small, quaint American town of just over six thousand residents which nestles into the rolling hills of South Dakota, USA. Once a year the population swells to nearly a quarter of a million as the Famous Sturgis Bike Rally rolls in to take over. It is into this backdrop that Ireland’s AMD Custom Bike Champion will be representing Ireland and competing against over 100 other top motorcycle designers from around the globe for the prestigious title of AMD World Champion of Custom Bike Building.

Ruth noted “We have been producing some of the most incredible bike designs for years in this country and this competition presents a rare opportunity for an Irish designer to shine on the World stage.”
