South Florida motorcycle enthusiasts will have the chance to combine their love of riding with support for an exceptionally worthy cause during the inaugural Office Depot Foundation Poker Run on Sunday, March 13.
All the funds raised by the Poker Run will help the Office Depot Foundation – the independent, non-profit foundation that serves as the primary charitable giving arm of Office Depot (NYSE: ODP) – to carry out its important charitable work as it serves children, families and communities in South Florida, across the U.S. and around the world.
The Poker Run route covers approximately 180 miles along some of South Florida’s most scenic highways, from Boca Raton to the Everglades, north to Lake Okeechobee, east to the Atlantic Ocean and south along Route A1A back to Boca Raton. Riders will receive five poker cards during the ride, and the three best 5-card poker hands will win cash prizes ($300, $200 and $100).
The ride begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration, coffee and donuts at the Wyndham Garden Hotel − Boca Raton at 1950 Glades Road. The first flight leaves at 8 a.m. Stops will include the Roland and Mary Ann Martin Marina in Clewiston, Fla., and Deck 84 in Delray Beach.
Following the Poker Run, riders and other guests will assemble at the Wyndham for a barbecue and live music by L3-16 – one of South Florida’s hottest classic rock bands and a favorite of bikers throughout the area. The barbecue will last from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and will have a cash bar.
The cost to participate in the Poker Run (including the barbecue and band) is $30 per bike. Additional riders are $20 per person. The cost to attend the barbecue and hear the band without participating in the ride is $25 per person.
“The Poker Run offers a great chance to ride with friends, have a wonderful time and help the non-profit Office Depot Foundation carry out its work in South Florida and beyond,” said Foundation President Mary Wong. She noted that the Poker Run will be led by avid bikers Charlie Brown, President, International for Office Depot, and Kevin Peters, President, North American Retail for Office Depot. “We greatly appreciate their invaluable support and guidance in the creation of this event,” Wong said.
The Office Depot Foundation is an independent foundation (tax exempt under IRC Sec. 501(c)(3)) that serves as the independent charitable giving arm of Office Depot, Inc.
